THEMED RIDE PROJECT DEVELOPMENT (RIDE ENGINEERING COMPETITION 6TH IN THE NATION)

Location

Columbus Ohio

Competition Date

April 11th / 12th

Role

Lead Theme designer

I am an active member of UCF’s Society of Themed Entertainment Engineers and Leaders (STEEL), and during the Fall 2024 and Spring 2025 semesters, our team participated in the national Ride Engineering Competition. This competition challenges students to design and build a fully functional ride system that meets strict guidelines and adheres to ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials) safety standards.

As the Theming Lead for our team, I was responsible for developing a cohesive and visually engaging theme that complemented both the mechanical and safety requirements of the ride. I collaborated closely with the mechanical and safety sub-teams to ensure that every design element enhanced the guest experience without compromising structural integrity or functionality. Our final concept, Singularity, was inspired by a black hole and designed to reflect the intense forces riders would experience—specifically achieving a minimum of 2 Gs during operation. We carefully selected materials and finishes that were both visually compelling and compliant with restraint systems and durability needs.
